Citation
Simon L. Chua is the principal of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School, Zamboanga City in Mindanao, the
most southern province of the Philippines.
He pioneered the Mathematics Trainers' Guild in the Philippines. His contribution has brought mathematics
to greater heights through his authorship of several mathematics books and articles, and his involvement in
both international and national conference/seminar/workshops as speaker/lecturer. His unremitting pursuit
to bring mathematics in the Philippines to a new dimension has influenced students'
critical and creative thinking through the variedly designed strategies that motivate
other mathematics educators to adopt in the classroom setting.
Simon has worked in a difficult environment, where goverment has had limited resources, but this
has never dimmed his vision nor has barred his mission to bring mathematics into the limelight of Philippine education.
Simon's direct contribution to international juries has been significant and his broader contributions through
his dynamic leadership has enabled the Philippines to earn several recognitions, awards, and commendations
from international mathematics competitions.
